This game is based around Lucky shots and crits, swords being unable to crit makes them useless. Also being in melee range when almost every enemy can one shot you in later stages is just not worth it. Yeah they are pretty meh after act 1. Not being able to crit is rough and they are almost unusable on most bosses.
Just started playing Tao and was super confused about how to build, and now putting together some ideas so others may have a starting point. I have yet played very few games with her. Tao's primary skill hits enemies with flying swords. The number of swords scales with 'Blade Heart' stacks, which are obtained by consuming ammo.

Though she has lower health than most, she has relatively high shields and good movement speed.
Tao with a blossom build and an illusion. I always had successfull runs when going on granades which Summon swords, then I went on the defensive skill that gives me max. Important scrolls are Hawkeye sight, deadly counter, sanguine relic, fire shard, fire enthusiast, flesh & bones, bullet light, resolute, ammo depot, and anything that boosts elements.Tao's peach blossom builds are way too strong compared to swords out builds.
