100% shards it's the same as like 2-3 hours of pickpocketing elves for each armor seed. If you use bofa to it's fullest for pvm you will blow through armor charges. You don't really need them after a while, I have 5 banked with 4000 c shards, corrupted bowfa and saeldor with max charged c armor.

You don't "need" the crystal helmet for most content however it definitely helps where you can use it.
