A lot of people don't really bother funneling resources to him any more as an average Invoker with enough levels can already do a lot with damage spells like Chaos Meteor(Meatball!) and a Deafening Blast.

Akali, Yone, Yasuo, and champs like that are all doable, albeit difficult matchups. Irelia is just purely impossible because she's got way too much in her passive alone that makes her uncontestable.
