The Virtus and SPEAR-LT uppers are significantly "wider" and protrude out over the sides of the lower receiver when using a standard AR. I have not run into any function issues using either upper on the AR lower, however, the forward assist housing screws are clearly visible when mounted on a standard AR lower. I'm currently running a Virtus upper on a Spear lower, works great. However you will still need an MCX trigger with a Virtus upper.
