There is a shift clutch adjustment you can check, (search for service manual) but if that doesn't fix it you will need to crack the case to see what's going on in there. Good luck! Rather than leave it for 8 hours, just reset it when needed. google the reset. It is key off, in neutral, press up and down at the same time, turn key and release up and down at the same time, when you hear angle sensor going through a cycle then press throttle open and release.
