I would not say that you have too but you would see a performance gain as well as MPG increase.

Hi there, I have a 1992 Johnson v4 outboard that I have a couple questions on. The engine runs great once started but when I start it up it has trouble in low idle. I use the high idle lever to start it, then have to quickly switch into gear when I put the lever down or else it will shut down.

What I am seeing is cranking at wot with the timer base rubber stop hitting it's stop is 21 degrees. Of course at wot this should equate to 25 degrees. The pointer is called a timing fixture but it is really a tool to adjust the ignition to fire as close as possible to 180 degrees apart.
