The HK USA armorer in Georgia has told me directly that the barrel vent to the gas block is different ( larger) between the 10.4" vented block version versus closed block version. He said it was necessary for it to operate correctly.

It has a 416 buffer and trigger group from a demilled lower, and it has an EXPS3, G33, PEQ-15, and a Surefire M300. Cool little combo, in my opinion. A practical combo as well. Nice to know any and all PMAGs will be compatible with your rifle.
An MR556/HK416 upper is just as easy to assemble as a DI milspec upper. The lower is easy as long as you get a trigger that will work with the HK BCG (disengage the firing pin safety). It’s really easy all things considered. Sourcing some HK parts was slightly challenging since HK BCGs and barrels are expensive and rarer than hens’ teeth.

He SBR the weapon with ATF to make it a title 1 weapon. So I am getting a full auto HK upper on the MR556 lower. My next MAJOR question is whether anyone with a DIAS has been able to use his DIAS in a MR556 lower with a 416 upper.

Since we are talking about market price for HK416 uppers (specifically 10.4" per the OP), anyone mind if I ask about the going/market rate for a new/unfired 14.5" upper? They seem to be a tad less common for sale in forums or from dealers then the shorter barrel counterparts.
