The compression ratio rating is 6.0:1.The difference is in the intake & exh. manifold. The 400 didn't pre-heat the intake mixture as much as the old M series did and that allowed an extra HP or two. The '51 M had 12-38's later 13.6's on 11"x38" rims. All the tire books I have list a recommended rim size and an alternate that typically is one inch narrower. NEVER is a wider rim allowed.
