I have a 2017 ford escape that the tailgate will not open. My fob works to unlock and lock my doors so I know that it isn't the battery. I've tried opening the tailgate with the release on the dashboard, with my fob and manually through the handle. Mechanic's Assistant: Have you had issues with the battery before?

Once you have the gate open you can test for power when pressing the open button.
