They can use their Bardic Inspiration to deal damage or protect allies—and they also hit surprisingly hard from melee or at a distance with Extra Attack, utilizing the game’s expansive list of strong Martial Weapons. Strength bard can get by with 3 good stats and 3 dump stats by taking a single level of fighter. Strength ranger can get by with 3 good stats and 3 dump stats by taking a feat. Or you can have good strength and con and 14s in dex and wis and just stick with medium armor. Dumping dex and taking the feat locks you out of multiclassing though. Valor is the sort of in between. They spend their Inspiration to add damage to an allies attack, or increase their armor class for an attack.
