Nope,Its no problem at all.There is a big washer up in there.This is an 8 speed with 2 stage clutch for the PTO.Ford told me they use a broom handle with some grease on it to line up and stick that washer back in place long enough to get the shaft back in,and the end of the shaft is beveled on the end so that helps as well.Its really quite simple.

Yes, I believe the shaft is splined and similar to the tractor's pto output shaft. I have gone so far as to put a strap on the pto shaft and hang the whole mower 4inches off the ground. Soaking over night. Sometimes in the morning the shaft will already have released. The quick Hammer strike on the collar will usually work.Looks like you got all the life out of that shaft.!! There are 3 bolts surrounding the IPTO imput shaft bearing cover. Remove these 3 and tub on the shaft and it should come right off. The 5 on the outer hold the TA assembly in place.
